👂 If you’re a small brand (for now), listen up! I will give you this advice until the end of time!
Lean Into One Thing: Stop wasting time comparing yourself to other brands and constantly changing your mind. Pick one marketing lane and lean the f*ck into it. For some brands that’s Instagram for others, it’s LinkedIn. Create a vibrant space in one place and then leverage it someplace else when you can.
ABCE: Always be collecting emails. Algorithms will change, and new social channels will arise but having direct contact with your audience will never ever not be effective. Even if you’re not ready to email them, collect those emails for when you launch your first campaign!
Copying Big Brands: There are two things to remember when looking at brands bigger than you. One is that they have tested everything through the wazoo and know what works for ads and creative. BUT keep in mind everyone in the world knows who Nike is so their website is welcoming hot customers. Yours likely won’t be. Know when to copy and when to do your own thing.
Nobody Cares David: If you watch Schitt’s Creek you get this reference. Nobody really cares about the nitty gritty features of your product in most of your major marketing. Communicate you why, your vision, and who you are first.
Be Bold: It’s the easiest to experiment, be bold, and push the limit when you’re small. Stop worrying abou who you’re putting off and stay concerned with if you’re really connecting with your audience and lean into it. The worst thing you can be in your marketing is a nothing burger. 🍔
